Servion Global Solutions achieves Level 4 of Capability Maturity Model (CMM)

Chennai, April 16, 2003
Servion Global Solutions today formally announced that it has been successfully assessed at Level 4 of Software Capability Maturity Model (CMM Version 1.1 of the Software Engineering Institute (SEI) at Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, PA, USA). The assessment was carried out by KPMG and covered software development and maintenance services provided by Servion

Servion has the distinction of being one of the few companies to have achieved CMM Level 4 maturity rating without the ISO Certification.

Customer needs and expectations are constantly changing. Awareness of new technology, legislation, problems, competitor products or services creates new wants for customers and they become pre-requisites when these customers begin their next purchase. Therefore, it is vital for organizations to constantly improve quality so that satisfied customers are retained as well as new customers are acquired. The quality programme at Servion assumed special focus, driven by business goals

These thoughts initiated the full-fledged effort towards the creation of quality processes and company wide adoption in October 2000. KPMG was selected as the Lead Assessor and the formal Gap Analysis was conducted in November 2001. After the first checkpoint review of Level 4 practices using the CBA-IPI framework (CMM Based Assessment for Internal Process Improvement), Servion was declared ready for the two-phase final assessment (IDR and Onsite) by KPMG in January 2003. The final assessment started in March 2003, at Servion Hub, the global project delivery site in Chennai and was completed on March 26, 2003.

Results of the assessment were formally announced on March 28th, 2003, with Servion having attained Software CMM Level 4.

"Quality is not just about implementing a system or working towards a set standard. It is an attitude, a way of working, which not only improves businesses but the way people work and live, said Mr. S. Madhavan, President and CTO, Servion Global Solutions Ltd.,

Servion believes that the assessment and sustained quality practices gives it the ability to manage software development / maintenance activities, efficiently and predictably. It would also bring to its customers, tangible benefits like higher reliability, faster delivery, reduced costs of operations and competitive advantage.
